Building Vignettes About Unhealthy Relationships:

Last year (2019-2020) I completed an independent study building a set of 6 vignettes (plausible, hypothetical scenarios) in partnership with the Students Commission of Canada (SCC). They were built to help start conversations around gender-based violence and relationship violence.

Vignettes as a Measure of Attitudes About Intimate Partner Violence

Now, for my honours thesis, I am looking to validate this set of 6 literary vignettes and the follow-up questions that belong with them. They will be validated against the Intimate Partner Violence Attitude Scale - Revised (IPVAS-R) to assess whether they can accurately measure attitudes around violence in relationships. The vignettes were designed to be completely gender neutral by referring to all characters with they/them pronouns. A final follow-up questions was added to each vignette inquiring about any unconscious gender assigning that may have occurred. This data will be analysed to see if any patterns occur in the assignment of binary genders.
